Zero to One on Paper

Lovely color combinations in these works by Alyson Shotz. They are being shown as part of the Zero to One on Paper exhibition at Ratio 3 Gallery in San Francisco. Not really sure how they are made - but who cares - they are absolutely georgeous! Via Little Paper Planes.

Painted Pieces

Too difficult to pick a few, so this post goes on and on and on – cause they are all amazing, these colorful, graphic origami painted wood pieces by New York based Korean artist Zin Helena Song! Her work is inspired by the architecture and the strong energy of the city - and belive it or not - check out all the other beautiful ones, that I left out here. Via The Jealous Curator.

Ladylike Legs

Fantastic surreal watercolour paintings by Tokyo-based artist Akiko Kobayakawa. The cute, innocent animals with their sexy ladylike legs has a surreal and yet very realistic feel and I love the delicate, poetic colours. In her work Akiko Kobayakawa likes to combine different things like beauty and ugliness, male and female, animals and humans, and she explores the boundary between them and makes it ambiguous. See more work here and buy some here. Via Spoon and Tamago.

KowwBoy

After working as a digital creative for commercial companies, Amsterdam based artist and designer SIT decided to stop the madness in 2008 and went back to head and handcraft to slice away the fat. Well I'm glad he did because I really enjoy these edgy and poetic illustrations from the series Kowwboy - made with spray paint on sandblasted glass. It's like you can actually see through the animals eyes and get the personality of the boy especially the lion and the dog – it's comforting and scary and at the same time. Via Lustik.

Taboo

Berlin based artist Dalila Dalléas Bouzar is inspired by cinema and photography but also by classical painters like Masaccio, Delacroix or Malevich. Her painting is marked by the expression of her own history, and no matter which subjects it deals with, whether it is portrait, landscape or sexuality, her artwork is always related to violence and with a search of release. These amazing oil-on-canvas-paintings are from the series Taboo. Via The Jealous Curator.

Bois Just Wanna Have Fun

The oil-on-canvas series Bois Just Wanna Have Fun by artist Cobi Moules, is a community of  engaging in different activities: playing, exploring his selves, nature and becoming part of it. Moules says: ‘As a queer and transgender person, I seek to renegotiate my relationship with this upbringing and the act of being told I am unnatural through such Christian lens. I utilize traditional representation as a way of seeking inclusion, creating a space for personal significance and a queer presence. The importance becomes the experiences of my multiple and overall presence.’
I love the scout-feeling it has to it – being part of a group where you all look alike and enjoy it and actually WANT to look alike, because looking different would cause too much attention and be terrifying so that's just NOT what you want – at least not at this time in your life. But that will all change in a few months and THEN you're gonna have fun... Via Ignant.

Gorgeous Gouache by Goss

I like these gorgeous gouache paintings by artist Joanna Goss. First of all because the colours are so beautifully put together, and then my eyes and imagination gets all excited trying to find something familiar in the jumble of layers and colours. I see a lot of evil-eyed animal heads, noses, mouths - what do you see?? Via Curate 1k.
