Situations

In the new series Situations by French artist and photographer Maia Flore, a girl runs through varyingly weathered landscapes donning a striking red outfit. In search of a sublime freedom, she travels to find fleeting moments of communion with nature. If you missed on of her other incredible beautiful and poetic series Sleep Elevations, you can check it out here. Via Ignant.

The Give-Aways

This is so fun and cool and I love the idea of giving away art in public spaces like this. The project is by American artist Christie Blizard, who embraces the social role of the artist through public interventions and by making work that is either free or sold for donations for local charities and thus extending the work into a larger political and social field.

Colour Splashes

In this white (or rather grey) winter-wonder-land we're surrounded by these days in Copenhagen, it's just a thrill to see some colours. And when the colours are beautifully composed like in these mixed media paintings done by Austin based artist Xochi Solis, I'm even more thrilled! And I like that they are actually cut out and not in ordinary "painting-shape" – can I be more thrilled?? Via The Jealous Curator.

It's All About Yarn

Just after wood comes yarn as another favorite material of mine, so I felt like in heaven when I found this weaving series of yarn on cropped rod by jewelry designer Mimi Jung. Modern and folk at the same time! Beautiful colors! Thank god that she uses her time off to explore personal art projects, incorporating various materials that she found inspiring, so this series came into my world! Via Trendland.

Everyday Fictional Life

Being the oldest of nine children and now the mother of three American photographer Julie Blackmon has a unique way of portraying everyday life. Her images are both fictional and auto-biographical and amongst others inspired by Dutch 17th century painter Jan Steen, and reflect not only our lives today as children growing up in a large family, but also move beyond the documentary to explore the fantastic elements of our everyday lives, both imagined and real. As an artist and as a mother, she believes life’s most poignant moments come from the ability to fuse fantasy and reality: to see the mythic amidst the chaos. Via Trendland.
