Benji Whalen grew up among artists: as a child at the Bread and Puppet Theatre commune in Vermont he was exposed early to an "art as sustenance" philosophy that still informs his identity as an artist. Whalen discovered embroidery on a trip to his grandmother's house. Since then he's been embroidering quilts and dummies, as well as painting in oils and creating installation art. Right now he is participating in a group exhibition at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark. Via Juxtapoz.
