Ladylike Legs

Fantastic surreal watercolour paintings by Tokyo-based artist Akiko Kobayakawa. The cute, innocent animals with their sexy ladylike legs has a surreal and yet very realistic feel and I love the delicate, poetic colours. In her work Akiko Kobayakawa likes to combine different things like beauty and ugliness, male and female, animals and humans, and she explores the boundary between them and makes it ambiguous. Not so itsy bitsy tini wini

Fantastic bathing suits and caps cut and crafted out of beautiful Japanese paper by American artist Kristin Martincic. She grew up swimming and believes that being submerged makes us consider our bodies in new ways and affects how we navigate through space. She uses bathing suits and environments associated with water to reveal the fine line between public and private, intimacy and exposure, skin and clothing. Sure makes me think of the times when modesty required apparel to cover up more of the body, than now a days with all the itsy bitsy tini wini bikinis ... Via The Jealous Curator.

Fleurs from 1929

Fleurs: texte et vingt-six planches en couleurs (1929). That's the lovely no-bullshit-title of a book by Serge Gladky with – what I would call – a perfect collection of geometric forms and nice colours in playful combinations! Serge Gladky was a prominent figure in the Art Deco movement and a leading precursor of modern abstract art. Beeing a French architect, designer, and graphic artist, who was active during the 1920s and 30s, he was primarily renowned for his cubist style, and his decorative abstract prints were characterized by the creative, harmonious synthesis of geometric forms derived mostly from nature. KowwBoy

After working as a digital creative for commercial companies, Amsterdam based artist and designer SIT decided to stop the madness in 2008 and went back to head and handcraft to slice away the fat. Well I'm glad he did because I really enjoy these edgy and poetic illustrations from the series Kowwboy - made with spray paint on sandblasted glass. It's like you can actually see through the animals eyes and get the personality of the boy especially the lion and the dog – it's comforting and scary and at the same time. Via Lustik.

Watercolour Wonders

Watercolour and fashion is a match made in heaven! Especially when it comes to these fabulous icecream-coloured fashion illustrations by New York based Swedish illustrator Mats Gustafson. When he began his career as an illustrator in the late 1970s, editorial illustration was eclipsed by photography, and watercolor as a conceptual medium had barely been explored. So thank God that he had the guts to throw himself in the watercolour arena and win the battle over this extremely delicate but impossible technique. Via The Jealous Curator.

Hypnopompic Hallucination

Besides beeing an exceptional state of sensory confusion leading out of sleep, in which one may experience the presence of, or see creatures and animals, such as spiders, monkeys and insects, Hypnopompic is also the name of a series of truly amazing tapestries by Finnish artist and graphic designer Kustaa Saksi, living and working in Amsterdam. The unique artworks are manufactured with jacquard weaving technique and made of mohair and alpaca wool, cotton and synthetic materials, such as phosphate and metallic acrylic thread. I think I just might crash on the sofa and try to hallucinate on of these beautiful tapestries on my wall. Sleep tight - or not that tight? Via Arcademi.
